Owner Registration/Product Registration Grayed Out in Rekordbox 7

I have 3 devices that can supposedly "unlock" Rekordbox features upon product registration, the A9 and CDJ3000's.  I have power cycled, updated firmware, plugged in and unplugged, reinstalled software, and all of the other typical technical troubleshooting steps with no success.  It still says "Trial" and "Free" under my plan with the Owner Registration/Product Registration grayed out under "Help".

Does anyone have a magic password here?  I have a project coming up and really need for this to work. I have seen numerous complaints about this with no solution given.  Hoping to get some community help.  Thanks!

Yes, it is a known issue and our engineers are trying to fix it in a future update.

I have the same issue again. It was working as "Free Plus" until I just updated 7.0.2 to 7.0.3. Now I am back to a greyed out "Owner Registration" icon. Even with my XDJ XZ plugged in.

It's something in the rekordbox3.settings file that has knocked this out during the upgrade.

zarko a

Yes, same here. I have "Owner Registration" greyed out in 7.0.4. I just installed, even though in my online account my XDJ XZ is registered? Many features are not available even though they should be available to XDJ XZ owners (dual track view? column view? etc etc)

Gabriel , Pulse any updates?

zarko a

Pulse I suppose you were referring to this link:

https://rekordbox.com/en/support/contact/

I will submit an inquiry now.

Phil Foggs

I have a fix for this that worked for me.

This is for Windows 10 & 11, on a Mac the location of the file will be in a different location.

In file explorer navigate to:

C\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Pioneer\rekordbox6\rb_guser

You can also type in search
%appdata%\Pioneer\reckordbox6 then look for the file rb_user

Make sure rekordbox is closed and rename the rb_guser file to rb_guser.bak

zarko a

Thanks Phil Foggs but thats for Rekordbox 6. Do you have any clue where I can find that file in Rekordbox 7? It seems it has been renamed since.

Pulse Gabriel a question you might also know the answer to, since Pioneer is making us try to find a fix ourselves.

edit: I have tried the fix Phil Foggs ,but when I opened my Rekordbox 7.05 again, it simply re-created the rb_guser file, exactly the same in name and content as the original one.

Phil Foggs

zarko a Hi, The folder location stayed as "reckordbox6" for rb7, this is the settings folder for both rb 6 & 7.

The folder named just "rekordbox" is the one with the database and artwork (called 'share' as a subfolder)

When you renamed the 'rb_guser' file did you attach your pioneer hardware and power on? As this is needed to activate the hardware registration process.

p.s sorry there was a typo in my original message with one of the references to the filename. Just to confirm it should be 'rb_guser' not 'rb_user'

Phil Foggs

Just as another note.

Owner hardware registration is not the same thing as registering your devices in the web portal. Which is where you log your device serial number and purchased date etc.

For some reason you cannot see online in the web portal the device you register from within Rekordbox . I think pioneer should change this so we as users can confirm registering and activation has worked and to which device.

Thanks, this workaround worked for me. On a Mac the location of the file will be: /Users/[username]/Library/Application Support/Pioneer/rekordbox6/rb_guser

zarko a

ok the workaround worked for unlocking of some of the features like dual track view when in export mode , and unlocked column view.

and finally, after many tries I managed to do the owner registration thing. and now these features seem unlocked. from my experience it was necessary to connect the console with the usb cable after both rekordbox and console were already on!

Marc Violo

Unfortunately I can't see the Pioneer file under /Users/[username]/Library/Application Support/

Do you know if this fix unlocks the analysis of tracks feature, unavailable in the Free Plan even with the HardwareUnlock?

Thanks for your help

Jenny Rose

Marc Violo in Finder go to your username, then try clicking on 'Go' in the menu and hold the option button which opens the Library folder (sometimes it is hidden). Then go to Application Support > Pioneer > rekordbox6. The rb_guser file should be in there and you just rename it to rb_guser.bak.

I'm not sure of all the features it unlocks, but it definitely unlocked the dual player feature for me and I can now see the "Free Plus" label at the top whereas before when I was facing the issue I only saw "Free".

Hello - Just bumping this thread as the above fix (renaming /Users/[username]/Library/Application Support/Pioneer/rekordbox6/rb_guser) does not work for me at all.

My issue is the same as the original poster's issue (Owner Registration/Product Registration Grayed Out) and I see no prompt to "link" my DDJ-FLX10 to Rekordbox to unlock the hardware features. My DDJ is registered to the Pioneer DJ / AlphaTheta account that's logged into RB7.

Like other folks here, I did the trial, which then expired. I'm now in "FREE" mode as opposed to "FREE PLUS" and see a constantly returning, annoying pop up prompting me to subscribe.

Things I've tried:

Log-out, log into a temp account, log back in

Renaming the file

Changing USB cables

Uninstalling and re-installing.Not a great experience at all and it's making me seriously question my purchase.

Any help welcomed.

The same issue just occurred for me. I have rekordbox 7.02, DDJFLX4, and a 2019 Macbook Pro.

I updated my controller firmware online, renamed the app to " rb_guser.bak," and it still does not resolve. My owner/product registration is greyed out and dual player is now locked in export mode. I cannot use dual player without my controller being plugged in. I was able to do so just a few days ago. It also says the "Free" version at the top and the pop up to update my experience keeps surfacing in the bottom right.

I have submitted an inquiry. Let me know if anyone has heard back from submitting an inquiry or found a permanent resolution

I have version 7.09 and it's the same problem - Does anyone have a fix? -

Ben Jeffreys
I managed to solve this issue myself and hope that you might find the information useful.

However - it requires having access to another hardware unlock device.

Whilst speaking to AlphaTheta support they mentioned that online registration and RB device registration are separate. So, registering your device online isn't the same thing as registering it with Rekordbox.

After re-reading the FAQ, specifically the part about registering a new device with RB, it seemed to me that if everything was working correctly then plugging an alternative hardware unlock device should fix the issue I was seeing. This is because plugging in a different hardware unlock device should trigger a registration update in Rekordbox.

A friend of mine (who lives nearby) also owns a DDJ-FLX10. So I took my controller and laptop to their house. I plugged their controller into my laptop and as if by magic, I see the registration prompt and then start to see [Free Plus], with all the associated benefits.

After this, I plugged my controller back in and even though I didn't see the registration prompt again, I did (and continue to see) the [Free Plus], even when its unplugged.

So, this... seems to have solved my problem, but I appreciate that it's not a solution that's not available to everyone.

If anyone from AlphaTheta is reading this - a simple "Reset Device Registration" option in the Help menu would probably solve this problem and reduce frustration for everyone who's having this issue.
DJ Ace

Having the exact same issue. My iMac displays; "Free Plus" with all unlocked features. My 2017 MacBook Pro also displays "Free Plus" with all unlocked features. But unfortunately, my 2024 MacBook Pro that I actually DJ with displays "Free" and those specific features locked. Can't re-register my DDJ-FLX10 either.

I submitted a ticket and will report back here if I have a solution!

DJ Ace

OK, as many of you suggested - support also suggested the same. And it worked!

  1. Close rekordbox.
  2. Rename the following file to something like rb_guser.bak:

/Users/username/Library/Application Support/Pioneer/rekordbox6/rb_guser

Mira Mark aka BECH

Any tip on where to find the "Pioneer/rb_guser" ? It`s not visible under application support... :(

DJ Ace

I'm on a mac so this is all I know;

The Library folder is hidden so you have to hold option key while accessing the Go menu in finder. Then you'll see Library folder.

Conrad Everhard

I have tried the rb_guser trick and every time it just recreates a version of the file without .bak. I am using an XDJ-AZ on a PC. Extremely frustrated right now - have tried basically everything to get this to work.

   merci

"it is a known issue and our engineers are trying to fix it in a future update."

Glad to see this still isn't fixed. Which future update? It wasn't 2024, 2025 is almost over... should we just wait and see if a random update in 2026 will fix it or do we have to wait for rekordbox 8?

Bought my FLX10 Aug 22 of 2023.
I've been dealing support since July 2024 about this owner registration greyed out issue. They knew users were having this issue since at least then - quote from an email from Pulse, July 11 2024:
"it's unusual, but it is something our team is working to figure out why it's not functional for some users."

Back and forth trying beta versions of the app they sent me to figure this out. The final straw where I just gave up and didn't even bother trying to deal with this anymore was a reply in March 2025 that I need to send my FLX10 and cover the cost of shipping, even if I'm within my 1 year warranty.

Pulse - March 30, 2025
"...you can arrange for inspection and repair from one of our authorized service centres (ASC). If you are within 1 year from the date of purchase, and the cause is not a spill, drop, or power surge, the servicing and parts would be covered by warranty, but you will be responsible for the delivery or cost of shipping the controller to the ASC of your choice. Be sure to tell them the problem is the computer is not able to read the serial number of the controller."

Spoiler: my one year would have been August 22 2024, but since this issue got kicked down the road and it was already March 2025 by then, it wouldn't be covered.

I don't think I should have to pay a dime for an issue I didn't cause, that is completely a software issue caused by ensh**ification of rekordbox 7 of needing to be "registered" to get the features I had in rekordbox 6.

Here's a better solution, offer any affected users at least the "Free + Cloud Option" via an account unlock vs making it our problem.
