RB Cloud + Dropbox: can't link because of pre-existing Dropbox account
Subscribed to Rekordbox core + cloud and attempted to connect a Dropbox account. NOTE: I already have & use a dropbox account for personal files (synced to my mac desktop) which I don't want to connect to Rekordbox (church & state).
So I spun up a new Dropbox account, using the same email address as my Rekordbox subscription, intending it as a dedicated Rekordbox cloud storage location.
ISSUE: Rekordbox will connect with my new dedicated Dropbox account, but won't sync with it - giving me the error that this new DropBox account is different to the Dropbox desktop application account Rekordbox is detecting on my desktop (my original, pre-existing personal use DropBox).
I thought I could compromise by connecting my Rekordbox cloud to my original personal DropBox (and have personal files and Rekorbox files live side by side on the one Dropbox account), but when I went to connect, Rekordbox asked me where I wanted to move my existing DropBox files (all my personal and business info!) to, indicating it would set up a new private DropBox account somewhere, accessed by a new email. I assume that means my personal stuff then is no longer synced to my Mac desktop, plus I have to spin up yet another email address for that account? Yikes! No thanks
So I backed out of that and looked into setting up 2 Dropbox accounts on the one Mac desktop - only possible if I upgrade to Business Dropbox accounts, apparently. Not dropping more money on this solution, thanks.
Now at a dead end. I have questions:
-
Is there a way to make Rekordbox sync with my new dedicated Dropbox account (without connecting to or otherwise moving my pre-existing, reliable, important-to me personal Dropbox account)?
-
Why does Rekordbox Cloud care which DropBox is on my local drive? Isn't that the point of cloud storage - that it is literally not on your local drive?
-
Should I attempt to use Google storage for Rekordbox cloud instead? NB: I already use Google drive in a couple of instances, also synced locally, so will I get the same multiple account issues?
-
Do I cancel my core + cloud plan and go back to only using ext hard drives as backup
- Do I just manually back up my music library (plus a RB database export) once a month, and forget about cloud sync?
