Feature Request – Advanced Smart Playlist Logic in Rekordbox
As a professional DJ and long-time Rekordbox user, I’d like to request an enhancement to Smart Playlists that would greatly improve music organization and preparation for performance.
Current Limitation:
Rekordbox Smart Playlists only allow for either “match all” or “match any” logic when setting playlist conditions. This is very limiting for DJs who tag their music across multiple categories (e.g., energy level, genre, mood, elements) and want to build playlists that reflect nuanced combinations.
Feature Request:
Please consider adding nested or grouped logic to Smart Playlists — such as allowing users to define rules like:
(Energy = 4 AND Genre = House) AND (Mood = Trippy OR Mood = Machine)
This would make it possible to create highly intentional, dynamic playlists without bloating the library with redundant tags or folders. It would also align Rekordbox with more flexible logic systems found in modern music libraries and software like iTunes, Traktor, and even basic database filters.
I don't necessarily need to see this feature reflected on the CDJs themselves but right now this is a major limitation in playlist creation when managing libraries.

It has now been brought to my attention that this type of nested AND/OR filtering logic can be carried out on CDJs so I am confused as to why this is not possible on the desktop software.
we need boolean logic for smart playlists! Need that for years!
