Technical Inquiry – XDJ-XZ DVS Dual Phase Audio Dropouts (Rekordbox)

Dear Pioneer DJ Support Team,

I hope you are well.

I am contacting you regarding a persistent technical issue encountered while using the XDJ-XZ in DVS mode with Rekordbox. This issue has been extensively tested and reproduced under multiple configurations.

🔧 System Configuration:

  • Product: XDJ-XZ
  • Software: Rekordbox (tested on v6.7.7 and latest v7.x)
  • OS: macOS Tahoe (latest version)
  • DVS Input: Phase (2 remotes, Relative mode)
  • Turntables: Reloop RP-7000 MK2
  • Additional controllers: XP1 / XP2 (via powered USB hub)
  • Audio buffer: tested between 2.8 ms and 15 ms

⚠️ Issue Description:

When operating two Phase-controlled decks simultaneously, the system exhibits:

  • Intermittent audio dropouts (approx. 0.2–1 second)
  • Both decks drop audio simultaneously
  • No loss of synchronization (playback resumes aligned)
  • Issue persists regardless of CPU load (system not overloaded)

✅ Control Tests:

  • Single Phase deck + one internal deck → stable
  • DVS using needles → significantly more stable
  • Removing XP controllers → no significant improvement
  • Phase connected directly to Mac (no hub)
  • XDJ-XZ connected directly to Mac

🔍 Additional Observations:

  • Increasing buffer size reduces frequency but increases dropout duration
  • Waveform rendering settings (speed, type, layout) significantly affect stability
  • Horizontal waveform layout performs better than vertical
  • Disabling “Full Waveform” improves stability
  • Behavior suggests a shared USB/audio pipeline interruption

❓ Key Questions:

  1. Is the XDJ-XZ USB/audio architecture designed to handle dual DVS Phase inputs simultaneously without interruption?
  2. Are there known limitations when combining:
    • DVS (Phase)
    • HID control
    • waveform data transfer
  3. Is there a recommended configuration for stable dual-deck Phase usage on XDJ-XZ?
  4. Is a driver or firmware update planned to improve stability on newer macOS versions?

🧠 Technical Hypothesis:

Based on testing, the issue appears to be related to:

  • USB endpoint scheduling
  • Audio + HID traffic contention
  • Internal buffering behavior of the XDJ-XZ

I would greatly appreciate a detailed technical response, as this issue significantly affects professional DVS performance.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Kind regards,
Paul Ghanimeh

 Hi there,

The XDJ-XZ has not yet been fully verified for use with Tahoe OS.
